The elegant Popincourt and the great Denis Bortek, renegade from Jad Wio, join forces with an astonishing spring single – a ravishing song with delicate bossa-nova accents coupled with a spare French rereading of “The Worst Of Lullabies” – which was engraved in its time, 2023, on “We Were Bound To Meet”, the third album from our divine smooth headed Popincourt. Almost gothic – in the nineteenth century sense of the term – ”La Pire Des Berceuses” therefore comes as a delicious counterpoint to the ode to hedonism offered by “Les Fruits Du Paradis” interpreted in New Wave crooner style by a murmuring Bortek. Two rooms, two atmospheres – one day side, one night side. Bound to meet, the two men certainly were, and the result keeps all its beautiful promises. Warm vocals and electric guitar shrouded in Style Council-style minor chords sit side by side with tragic strings and a twilight piano.
